Although both delicious and habit forming, sugar and alcohol are the epitome of empty calories. Added sugar, especially has no mandatory use in our bodies as long as we eat enough carbohydrate from whole grains, fruits/veggies. And alcohol, while it has a few “benefits” (small amounts may increase good cholesterol, blood pressure, red wine has some antioxidant properties from the grapes) we can certainly live without it. As a dietitian, I believe in moderation, but sometimes it is helpful to “reset” and go without for a week or two.
This is my challenge to you. Get it out of your system for the next two weeks!
