As many of you are aware, we are seeing exciting developments on the COVID-19 vaccine front. Several companies have published preliminary data demonstrating greater than 90% efficacy. This is truly exciting news; a light at what has been, and still is, a long tunnel.
The data is now undergoing a formal Health Canada review and we expect that we will have the first safe and effective vaccines for COVID-19 in early 2021.
The Government of Canada has secured contracts with a variety of manufacturers. They have announced that we will initially be receiving approximately 6.5 million doses. This will be enough for more than 3 million people, because the vaccines currently being reviewed require a two-dose schedule.
At this time, we do not know how the vaccines will be released, however, this will be the largest mass immunization program in Canadian history. We expect front-line healthcare workers and first responders will receive the first doses, as well as the most vulnerable amongst us, such as seniors living in care facilities.
Each province and territory, in conjunction with the Federal Government, will be crafting a plan to ensure that those who are at greatest risk will receive the vaccine first.
At Copeman Healthcare, we will partner with our provincial health leaders to ensure our patients receive their vaccines as soon as possible.
There is no need to contact your clinical care coordinator or clinic at this time. Please be assured, we will contact you as soon as we know when and where vaccines will be available to you and ensure they are delivered in a safe manner.
Thank you for your understanding and please accept our best wishes to you and your family during this uncertain time.
