About the Best Doctors Program

Your health matters. We make it our top priority.

Copeman Healthcare is pleased to bring you even more peace of mind to assist you in times of medical uncertainty. Our offering with Best Doctors provides additional services to complement the care you already receive from your Copeman team.

The following services are now available:

1. Elite Diagnostic Imaging ServiceSM (EDIS)

In many provinces, wait times for “non-urgent” scans can take months, impacting outcomes such as pain, disability or worse. For example, you may be experiencing excruciating pain from a “non-urgent” herniated disk that is “not likely” to cause permanent disability, or you may need a knee replacement that “can wait”. EDIS can reduce wait time for an MRI or CT scan from weeks or months to just days, allowing you and your care team to quickly move forward with the right treatment. When you are enrolled in EDIS, the cost of your MRIs and CT scans at a Best Doctors affiliated imaging clinic are 100% covered.

2. InterConsultationSM

InterConsultation is more than a second opinion on your medical condition…it’s a confidential, patented process that complements the care that you have from your Copeman physician by providing a second expert review, bringing greater certainty to your diagnosis or treatment plan. With an InterConsultation, Best Doctors peer-nominated expert specialists perform an in-depth analysis of your medical records, including X-rays, test results, imaging scans and pathology samples (which are retested at one of our centres of excellence). You receive an expert’s detailed summary of the findings which you can share with your Copeman care team.

3. Find Best CareSM

If you require treatment from a specialist outside of Canada, with FindBestCare, Best Doctors coordinates a search of their global database of over 53,000 peer-nominated physicians in more than 450 specialties and subspecialties to find the expert(s) best suited to your needs. You receive up to three recommendations for leading physicians.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can I purchase this program outside of Copeman?

A: Best Doctors is offered through group memberships by means of employers, benefit plans, etc. and is not available to individuals on a stand-alone basis.

Q: I already have Best Doctors coverage through my employer, does this Copeman/Best Doctors program provide the same coverage?

A: It’s unlikely that your current coverage includes the EDIS service, and we recommend you check your current coverage prior to enrolling. Enrollment in Best Doctors through Copeman Healthcare also provides you with access to these services until you are 75 years of age versus the corporate programs that end at 65 years of age.

Q: What does the Copeman/Best Doctors program cost?

A: The cost for all three bundled services – EDIS, InterConsultation and FindBestCare – is $325 plus applicable taxes per family per year. A family is defined as you, your spouse, and your dependent children up to age 21 or 25 if they are full-time students. Children who are incapable of supporting themselves because of a physical or mental disorder are covered without age limit if the disorder begins before they turn 21, or while they are students under 25, and the disorder has been continuous since that time.

Q: What are the eligibility requirements?

A: You and your family members are eligible for this program until age 75. At least one family member must be enrolled in the Copeman LifePlus program to be eligible for and maintain enrolment in the Copeman/Best Doctors program.

Q: Will my family member be eligible for the Best Doctors program if they are not enrolled with Copeman?

A: Yes, only one Copeman LifePlus family member is required to enroll your family in this program. However, please note that Copeman can only coordinate medical records with Best Doctors for those family members who are also enrolled at Copeman. Medical record coordination fees will be covered through your existing Copeman LifePlus or Copeman Kids service.

Q: What are the program exclusions? What is not covered?

A: There are no pre-existing condition provisions and no medical eligibility exams are required to qualify. This is a membership-based program and is not insurance. The EDIS service is subject to a lifetime maximum of three diagnostic tests (MRIs or CT scans) per medical condition. All expenses and arrangements associated with medical treatment (excluding the cost of the MRI or CT scan), travel and lodging are the responsibility of the member. EDIS availability is based on the member’s location in Canada. Best Doctors does not make referrals, travel arrangements or appointments for members. Mental health and nervous conditions are excluded from the InterConsultation service. Medical care and treatment is not provided by Best Doctors and no doctor-patient relationship will be created between Best Doctors and a member, or between any Best Doctors expert and a member. Best Doctors services are offered solely for the purpose of providing medical information for use by members and their treating physician(s).

Q: When can I enroll?

A: You can enroll in the program at any time, however, there will be a 180-day wait period for enrollment after you have applied. Once you have been enrolled in the program for one year, you may terminate the service at any time with 30 days’ notice.

Q: Once I’m enrolled, how do I use the service?

A: Simply call Best Doctors when you have a medical question or concern and they will spring into action and walk you through the process. As for the EDIS service, your Copeman Clinical Care Coordinator will assist you and initiate the process directly by ensuring you are set up with an appointment for your diagnostic test. For the other services (InterConsultation and Find Best Care) the service should best be initiated by you directly by simply calling Best Doctors and identifying yourself as a member of the Copeman Healthcare Centre. A Best Doctors Member Advocate (a Registered Nurse) will be assigned to your case and will contact you to obtain your detailed medical history. The Member Advocate will help you determine what service(s) best meet your needs and guide you through the process. Please note that your enrollment will also be “flagged” in your Copeman medical record to alert your Copeman care team that you are eligible for these Best Doctors services. With your consent, Copeman will securely send your medical records to Best Doctors when required.

Q: How do I sign up?

A: Complete the form below and hit the send button to complete your application. Payment in the amount of $325 excluding applicable taxes will be deducted as an Other Service in accordance with your Copeman Health Services Agreement. A Copeman representative will confirm your enrollment effective date and provide you with more information on Best Doctors and their services.
