Psychological Health Services
Our emotional health is reflected in the physical state of our body. And when you work on both your mind and your body, each reacts synergistically, supporting the healing of the other. At Copeman Healthcare, we have become very focused on this important aspect of recent neuroscience research.
Psychiatrist, Psychologists and Researchers
The fact is that our emotional, neurological, glandular and immune systems are all connected, speaking the common language of neurochemistry. Whatever happens in one system impacts all others. Therefore, it is not surprising that many people with emotional difficulties experience physical complaints, such as pain, insomnia, fatigue, insomnia, heart palpitations and sweating – as well as weight gain (or loss). Many people don’t realize that the link between certain psychological health issues and heart disease, for example, is as strong as many commonly known lifestyle risk factors.
Recognition of the very important “mind-body connection” is why Copeman Healthcare established the Copeman Neuroscience Centre in January, 2007. The Neuroscience Centre houses psychiatrists, psychologists and researchers dedicated to the early detection and treatment of psychological health conditions. The professionals at the neuroscience centre can be accessed with a referral from your family physician.
Psychiatrists are licensed physicians, specially trained to treat patients with psychological disorders and to prescribe medications. Treatment by a psychiatrist might include pharmacological (medication) or psychological therapy, or a combination of the two.
Psychologists use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as the primary treatment modality. Psychologists at the Copeman Neurosciences Centre work with psychiatrists and other team members to formulate the best treatment strategy for you. Psychologists and psychiatrists accept private referrals from family practitioners, as well as self referrals.
