Psychological Health Clinic
Psychological Health Services
Our emotional, neurological, glandular and immune systems are all connected, speaking the common language of neurochemistry. Whatever happens in one system impacts all others. Recognition of the very important “mind-body connection” is why Copeman Healthcare established the Copeman Neuroscience Centre in 2007. The Neuroscience Centre houses psychiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychologists and world renowned researchers dedicated to the early detection and treatment of psychological health conditions. The centre provides individual professional services or complete mental health programs.
Professional Services with a Team Approach
Preventing mental illness, or reducing the effects of mental illness on an individual’s functioning through early diagnosis, is the best possible outcome. The Centre employs numerous methods to seek out early indicators of mental health problems to allow for intervention before a problem progresses. If a problem already exists, the Centre is able to apply the expertise of numerous specialized mental health professionals including psychologists, neuropsychologists and psychiatrists. These professionals will work closely together to formulate the best treatment strategy for each client, often accessing other medical professionals within the Centre such as family doctors, registered dietitians, exercise medicine specialists, and family health nurses.
The Centre provides diagnosis and treatment across the entire spectrum of mental health but focuses on clinical psychology, which is concerned with the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders including:
- Anxiety Disorders
- Acute Stress
- Panic Disorder
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder
- Mood Disorders
- Bipolar Disorder (Manic Depression)
- Stress Management
- Relationship Difficulties
- Alcohol & Drug Dependency
Psychological counseling is usually delivered in one hour sessions and, depending on the complexity of the problem, will include a comprehensive assessment using evidence-based questionnaires and other tools. Psychologists at the Copeman Healthcare Centre accept referrals from family practitioners, as well as self referrals. View fee schedule
A clinical neuropsychologist is a licensed psychologist with expertise in how behavior and skills are related to brain structures and systems. In clinical neuropsychology, brain function is evaluated by objectively testing memory and thinking skills. A very detailed assessment of abilities is used to determine an individual’s specific pattern of strengths and weaknesses. This is used in diagnosis and treatment planning. Psychiatrists are licensed physicians, specially trained to treat patients with psychological disorders and to prescribe medications. Treatment by a psychiatrist might include pharmacological (medication) or psychological therapy, or a combination of the two. Psychiatric counseling is usually delivered in half-hour or one hour sessions and requires a referral from a family physician.
